Finestra

by Harto x Asprey Studio

Hailing from the vibrant city of Barcelona, Harto has been deeply influenced by his surroundings to create Finestra. Barcelona, a city rich in history, color, and innovation, has long been a breeding ground for artistic genius. Home to iconic figures such as Gaudí and Miró, it has been a melting pot of arts and culture for centuries.

How Does Generative Art Relate to Stained Glass?

Barcelona is renowned for its modernist landmarks like the Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell, characterized by mosaics, organic forms, and colorful, innovative compositions. In his project, he delves into a significant yet often overlooked aspect of Catalan heritage—stained glass, or “vitralls”, which are foundational to the city’s aesthetic.

Stained glass windows typically incorporate grids, geometry, and repetitive structures, with some artisans creating extraordinary figurative forms or deconstructed compositions. What if new technologies could enhance these traditional methods?

Generative art, a transformative tool, allows for the creation of hundreds of outputs in seconds.

Introducing Finestra

“Finestra”, meaning window in Catalan, is an invitation to explore the fusion of the old world with modern automation. This collection reinterprets traditional artistry through the lens of new technologies that ensure longevity and preservation. Each piece in this five-piece collection is crafted using p5.js, embodying fine art and culture on a robust and secure blockchain—a window that cannot be broken.

Finestra is an ordinal collection crafted in p5.js with recursion and child-parent provenance, each piece inscribed on Uncommons satoshis.

These artworks were created for “The Art of Ordinals” event on April 17th, 2024, at the Asprey Studio gallery in London. VIVID Gallery provided assistance on the concept, the coding implementation and the inscription.
